It's amazing how much people love the shore. When Memorial Day comes, all you have to do is turn on the local news to see flocks of people crowding the AC Expressway. When you think about it, however, the shore is just a relaxed seaside town with restaurants and shops. Granted some of the towns boast beautiful views of the ocean and breathtaking sunsets. But, for the price of a week in Ocean City, NJ, a family could see the Leaning Tower of Pisa or take a tour of the Mediterranean. But not us. We want our Mack and Manco's and our Kohr Brother's.

What does the term "bennies" even mean? Locals and Wikipedia say that the term stands for the names of the cities along the North Jersey Coast Line: Bayonne, Elizabeth, Newark, and New York. Get it?

If you're anything like this Phillyist, you abhor the Olive Gardens and Applebees of the world, and opt for the local "mom and pop" shops with their homemade foods and servers that know you by name. The shore is the best place to get that "mom and pop" vibe. Because, with the short four-month season and location, location, location, it's not easy for chains to justify setting up shop down the shore. When the clock inches towards five on a Friday, this Phillyist likes to say she'll be going down the shore. But many might say they are going "to the beach" or "to the ocean." According to Urban Dictionary, the term "down the shore" is used mostly by us Philly folks. Regardless, Phillyist believes that wherever you go this weekend—the beach, the shore, or the seaside—you should make it a great one.

We're not sure how you feel about it, but as far as we can tell gas prices and the horrible economy haven't deterred anyone from going down the shore. The beach is the place to be. Here’s what’s going on this weekend.

In fact, Americans will consume roughly 150 million hot dogs this Independence Day. That's a lot of processed meat! Screen tees, message tees, whatever you want to call them - you either love 'em or hate 'em. The shore is no better place to stock up on some of your favorite t-shirts, or poke fun of the ones you'd never be caught dead in. Wildwood is especially famous for having its fair share of ridiculous t-shirts. Save Britney, O so Textual, and Pale is the New Tan, are just some of the ones you'll see this year. And, it appears that some of the new t-shirts are even taking a political stance, according to this article from the Inquirer. Go make a fashion statement, and have a great weekend down the shore.
