Oprah’s said it. The helpful Victoria Secret clerks say it. Our great-aunt Holly used to say it all the time: a well-fitting bra makes the woman. Today you can acquire said well-fitting brassiere and help raise money for breast cancer research at the same time at Fit for the Cure. Wacoal certified fitters will be on hand in the lingerie department at Macy’s Center City today from 11AM-5PM; for every woman who participates in a......

It's nasty out, but don't let the weather keep you from exploring all that this city's artisans and art curators have to offer! Take, for instance, the special First Friday event the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts is throwing in honor of their new (aforementioned) Cecilia Beaux American Figure Painter exhibition, starting at 5PM. It's the first chance that Philadelphians will have to see the exhibit, plus, there will be live music and free food.......

So enjoy this afternoon's glut of lists from your friendly neighborhood bloggers, and we'll see you next year! You know those songs that take over your headphones for weeks at a time? Well, the youngest alternative-rocker on the Phillyist staff decided to put all those infectious tunes into......

The best of the internet, squirted out in flavorful neon globules, just for you. Here is a cake that you might not want to make for Timmy's 6th birthday party. But for the 40th birthday party of that creepy guy who works at the comic book store, absolutely. (Via) Hewlett-Packard is licensing a medical patch, designed based on their inkjet technology, with up to 90,000 microscopic needles per square inch, microprocessors, and a thermal unit.......

Londonist are starting to think their city is getting just a little bit too expensive, when even Christian Slater can't afford to go out there. And there's no escaping, as local singer Lily Allen discovered when she was barred entry to the US. The British mapping agency caused further bad karma, by blocking a 3-D representation of London in Google Earth. But the smiles returned to Londonist's faces as they interviewed Baroness von Reichardt,......

If you’re Travis, making an entrance through the front of the Electric Factory and weaving your way through an audience is an easy way to stir up some excitement. Simultaneously playing “Gonna Fly Now,” (The “Rocky” Theme) by Bill Conti makes for an even better introduction. Jump up and down on stage with your fists in the air, and you’ve got your Philly fans pulling for you to be good. Show that you’ve got......

They’re responsible for a half decade of pretty, meta-melodic British acts like Keane, Aqualung, and that band that was burned as the answer to the question, “You know how I know you’re gay?” It’s been quite some time since Travis has been an active name in music. More recently, they’ve been getting less attention as influencers, and more for their new album The Boy with No Name. It’s been 3 years since their last record,......

Travis Morrison, former front man of the Dismemberment Plan, will be bringing his Hellfighters to World Cafe Live on Saturday night. Tickets are the ridiculously low price of $10. So get on down to University City and check out his sound. And if you weren't a fan of his solo album, Travistan, never fear. We hear he's getting back to his rock & roll roots. And how could he not with a band name......

Fun around town, for $10 or less: Movie Monday Tuesday at The Troc: This week, the Monday movie is on Tuesday. I wouldn't argue, since the movie is Taxi Driver, and Travis Bickle isn't someone I'd suggest having a disagreement with. $3 admission, applicable towards concession. Doors open at 6, the show starts at 8, and you must be 21+ to attend. The Troc is located at 1003 Arch Street. Inverse: The Inverse Poetry Reading......

Film: FeedFuture Screenings: None Festival goers notes of the day: If you're the sort of movie goer who can't conceive of seeing a movie without popcorn, be warned that the Cinema at Penn does not have a working concession stand. Noting Jim's comment about the festival curators' reluctance to discuss the details of Feed at the pre-festival talks because it was "likely to make people sick," I sent my fellow Phillyist an email which amounted......

Last night Phillyist attended the first of the three Evenings with the Curators of the 15th Philadelphia Film Festival that we told you about here, and we have to say, it was pretty exciting. Some of the stuff we learned: the festival is running from March 30th through April 11th, which is shorter and earlier than it's been in the past; this is in order to avoid all the religious holidays, and that most non-religious......

Are you as excited about the upcoming 15th Philadelphia Film Festival as Phillyist is?! We don't really see how you could be, but okay. Anyway, if you just can't wait to know this year's line-up (we mean besides the Danger After Dark program; you already know that, thanks to us), and/or you're desperate to know more about how the films were selected and which of them are going to be really good, you should show......

Well, it's official, folks: we're going to have a citywide wi-fi hotspot! (Phillyist gets a tingle just typing that.) The deal between internet service provider EarthLink and non-profit Wireless Philadelphia (created by Mayor Street to oversee the plan) has been signed, and we are go. Now EarthLink just needs to install about 4,000 transmitters on various lightpoles. Don't worry, there will be no cost to city taxpayers...although we're not sure how that's going to......

On July 26, 2000, Phillies pitcher Curt Schilling (now the most-expensive set-up man around while he rehabs his ankle injury) was traded to the fesity Arizona Diamondbacks after winning 102 games in a Phillies uniform, including one in the 1993 World Series. Schilling was upset in Philly, he wanted out and the rest is history. The Phillies may not see a pitcher that good for 25 years. He’s up there with Steve Carlton and Robin......
