No World Series game tonight, folks, which means that you can head out to see what's actually going on in the Philadelphia area—as long as you aren't relying on SEPTA to get you there.

About five years ago, The Von Bondies broke into the public semi-consciousness with "C'mon, C'mon," the theme from . The band's sound was vintage punk, as if they'd cut their teeth doing opening sets at a smoke-filled CBGB. (Although the Bondies' sound was, to this Phillyist's ear, very New York, the Bondies actually come from Detroit.)
You've probably never heard of The Atomic Square (MySpace). I hadn't, until about 9:30 this morning. On a whim, I checked out The Khyber's website to see what shows were coming up, and the description of The Atomic Square, a local band who is playing there tonight, caught my eye:
[T]his is a new or out-of-the-ordinary type of ambient in that the drums' role is so pronounced. It gives the music a sharp edge in a sub-genre that too often dangerously blands away. The Atomic Square's result is having created a rock-ambient hybrid.
Thanksgiving Eve is widely considered the biggest bar night of the year—which means Old City is going to be a supreme clusterfuck tonight. But, if you're willing to brave that section of town and its throngs of Philadelphia's version of the bridge and tunnel crowd, you can find a safe haven at The Khyber, where Audrye Sessions will be part of a lineup that should draw a decidedly more subdued (if not be sober) crowd.
