A tall, icy glass of our favorite internet junk, just for you. America, in the person of San Francisco native Craig Billmeier, AKA Hot Lixx Hulahan, has won the Air Guitar World Championships. We are swelling with patriotic pride. Our sister site LAist reports on a woman who continued Twittering even while having a baby. That's dedication. Looks like no Preacher on HBO after all. The new head of HBO felt the adaptation was just......

South Philadelphia is a unique collection of narrow streets, old-world traditions and curse words. Hidden amongst the proud blue-collar glaze of cheese-whiz and Catholicism lies a number of fascinating mysteries, mysteries that have never penetrated the protective border of Washington Avenue. Until now. Until one Phillyist* decided to pull back the curtain of intrigue and reveal…The Mysteries of South Philadelphia. Mystery #1: The Fountain of Youth. Right around the corner of 12th and Tasker......

Three Philadelphia Tour Guides are up-in-arms due to a City Council bill that says all guides must be certified by obtaining a license. The license is given after the guides pass an exam that tests their knowledge of Philadelphia history. They feel this is in violation of their rights and have filed a lawsuit against the city. Phillyist has obtained a copy of the guides' original complaint to City Council President Anna C. Verna: Dear......

For those of you who don't know, Larry Mendte used to do stand-up out in California. Now that he has some free time, maybe he'll pick up the mic again. Man, we hope so! Hey thanks everybody, it’s good to be here. Take my anchor chair, please! Seriously though what’s the deal with e-mail? Have you seen this thing? Apparently you can send letters and pictures over the internet. It’s true. Yeah, apparently you can......

As a straight American man, I believe that the current ruling by California lawmakers to legalize gay marriage is a mistake that will ruin this great American nation of ours! Yet, as a straight American man, I am not allowed to disagree with what the liberal, New York, Hollywood, cheese-eating, French-speaking, Oprah Book Club Reading, media-istas say is acceptable. Well I say "accept-a-BULL!" What kind of country is this where a citizen cannot express himself......

Hello. I’m former Mayor of Philadelphia John F. Street for the new Apple 3G iPhone. The “3G” stands for “Gimmee, gimmee, gimmee!” Just a little joke. But there’s no joking about this incredible piece of technology. The new 3G iPhone has everything a former Mayor of Philadelphia needs. Take Push Email: now when my lawyer needs to reach me about a subpoena or schedule a hearing, I get his email instantly. And with Push Calendar,......

Dear Mamaist: Lately, I've been babysitting a lovely little girl two days a week. Her parents are close friends of mine, and they named her for one of their personal literary heroines, which you know I think is awesome. She's five months old and thinks just about everything I do is funny, except for when she's a little tired. But when she is tired, I put her down in her crib and play lullaby versions......

What's new and/or interesting in Philly theaters this weekend. Finishing the Game - We posted the preview for this one a ways back. It's a mockumentary about director Robert Clouse's attempt to finish the film Game of Death after the untimely death of its star, Bruce Lee. In Finishing the Game, Clouse starts a frantic search for an impersonator to replace Lee, and much wackiness and Hollywood satire ensue. Sounds like fun, but keep in......

Performances: A Twilight Performance of Spoon River Anthology (The Late Laureates of Laurel Hill ) (No Future Showtimes.) Pulling up the rear in this edition of the Phillyist Philly-Live-Fringical-of-Arts Diary series we celebrate the ultimate Halloween pre-game. Just in time for CVS' pre-pre-trick-or-treating candy fest comes a reading from the dead in a place of the dead with a cast and audience pretty close to death themselves (I jest, of course. Respect your elders kids!)......

What's new and/or interesting in Philly theaters this weekend. Becoming Jane - English majors around the world are either cringing or jumping for joy over this historical drama about the personal life of Jane Austen, which heavily influenced her work. Normally, this Phillyist would be rolling his eyes and thinking of any and every excuse imaginable to avoid seeing this movie, but if push comes to shove, he might suffer through it. After all, Anne......

Films: The Bothersome Man, The Kovak Box Future Screenings: The Bothersome Man - None The Kovak Box - Sat, April 14, 5PM at the Ritz East; Wed, April 18, 6:15PM at the County Theater, Doylestown Well, crap. I did indeed jinx myself, as I feared I might, when I said in my last diary entry that I hadn't seen a bad movie yet. Because last night, I saw my first "Poor" of the festival, The......

The shapeless dough of the internet, formed into tasty pellets and baked to perfection, just for you. Got your first full-length trailer for Oceans 13 right here. Loved the first two movies, and this one looks like it's going to be just as cool. (Via) Remake Peckinpah's Straw Dogs?! Well, okay. But... try not to make it more disturbing, okay? Yay, pics from the set of Iron Man! And they're not like blurry photos of......

It takes a lot to make me literally go slack-jawed, especially when I'm watching a play. I'm well aware that, not only is it unflattering, it can actually be quite frightening as an actor to look out and see certain reactions from your audience. The Act One finale of Nerds://A Musical Software Satire, Philadelphia Theatre Company's offering at the Philadelphia New Play Festival, however, caught me in a rare moment. My mouth was open......

A tall, icy glass of our favorite internet junk, just for you. Check out this awesome chronological compilation of the work of Ray Harryhausen, master of the stop-motion animated monster. (Via) Love your Wii, but disappointed you've got no new Mario adventure game to play on it? Well, us, too, but it looks like we might have to wait quite a bit for it yet: Reggie says Super Mario Galaxy could be coming out any......

The best of the internet, chopped into tiny bits and grilled for your enjoyment. We're kind of excited about the upcoming Castlevania movie, despite the fact that video game adaptations are almost universally bad, and that the writer/director of this particular effort - Paul W. S. Anderson - has done some pretty not-great work in the past (his Mortal Kombat is probably one of the best films based on a video game ever made, but......

The best of the internet, chopped into tiny bits and grilled for your enjoyment. Apparently Final Fantasy XII has leaked out all over the internet. It certainly wouldn't be legal or nice to go download a copy right now... Speaking of final fantasies...it's the 2007 12-month Nerdcore calendar (NSFW), featuring naked pictures of gamer girls - or at least, cute girls with gaming implements somewhere near their bodies. The perfect decoration for a dorm room......

A steaming hot pile of our favorite things from around the internets. Why not start your Friday afternoon right with an exceedingly long and sharply satirical clip from "The Daily Show?" Best political satire on the internet and on TV! (Via) This is kind of hilarious - a Senator has proposed a piece of legislation that would require the ESRB (the game ratings board) to play each game in its entirety before giving the game......

We got the heads-up a while back that a flash mob would be forming at Geno's on Saturday, 9/9 to order steaks in languages other than English, in protest of the infamous "English ONLY" sign. We debated whether to post about it here or not, fearing the news might get to the staff of Geno's before the big day, and ruin the surprise. By the time we were done debating, the event had already occurred.......

Today's the day the art commission is meant to decide whether or not Rocky's effigy can hang out near the Art Museum steps. If yes, it'll be installed on Friday, if no, then, well, the media will be able to drag this issue out all that much longer. (Seriously - Phillyist doesn't think there was this much press when "The Scream" was found.) The Daily News is taken to task by Newsbusters for their......

What's new and/or interesting on TV this week. Daily Show with Jon Stewart (Tue; 11PM-11:30PM; Comedy Central) - This is already one of the greatest shows on TV, full of sharp, clever, hilarious satire of contemporary media and politics. But Tuesday's episode has all that, plus Samuel L. Jackson (who will come, no doubt, bearing clips from his upcoming movie, Snakes on a Plane), so you have to watch. (Link) Mythbusters (Wed; 9PM-10PM; Discovery) -......

What's interesting on TV this week. Commando (Tue; 9PM-10:30PM; Spike) - Ah, Commando. There is no more appropriate film for Spike (the self-professed "channel for men") to broadcast. This is the manliest film there is; the quintessential action movie, so ridiculous and over-the-top in its brutal-but-fakey violence and macho posturing that it transforms almost immediately into a (homoerotic) satire of itself. It's hilarious and awesome. Oh, and obviously, being the quintessential action movie, it stars......

Over the Hedge is a computer-animated family film from a large Hollywood studio (in this case, DreamWorks), so you know pretty much what to expect: a bunch of anthropomorphized animals voiced by a bevy of celebrities, spouting amusing jokes laced with pop culture references, who go through a series of wacky adventures that splits them apart, but then ultimately brings them back together again, closer friends than ever, and everybody learns a valuable lesson about......

What's new and/or interesting in Philly theaters this weekend. Art School Confidential - The makers of Ghost World team up again for another movie based on a comic. This time it's a satire of the art world, as seen through the eyes of aspiring artist and student Jerome (Max Minghella). John Malkovich plays a professor, and Jim Broadbent and Anjelica Huston also appear. According to the IMDB, there's also an uncredited cameo from Steve Buscemi,......

Philadelphia is all about the Shakespeare this time of year. Now, Twelfth Night is about to open! The quote in this week's headline is the very first line in Shakespeare's romantic comedy. And knowing that puts you one step ahead when you're playing Quizzo. (We've gotten that question twice.) Now, on with the listings! Agnes of God - For whatever reason, we always kinda confused this with Rosemary's Baby. May 5-21. Tickets online. As Thousands......
