VisitPA Telling Stories of Adventure, Love to Encourage Tourism

Pennsylvania's tourism gurus, VisitPA, have decided to up the ante with some creative promotional material, not mention a beautifully integrated web site. They recently launched PAStories.com, which tells the tale of Peter Arthur and his search for a lost love. His journey takes him all over the state as he tries to find the waitress that served him the most amazing slice of shoofly pie he has ever had.

Twitterist: Philadelphia In 140 Characters Or Less

Okay, since we started this post, we've gained about 100 followers! We're happy to hear from you, and we're hoping that most of you aren't robots or simply twitterfeed-ing your RSS updates to the statusphere. We want some back and forth, some good Philly conversation.

The Pennsylvania Office of Tourism doesn't want the tough economic times we've been having to keep people from visiting the state. And we don't want the easy meteorological times we had today to make you forget that it is, in fact, still winter. So, as a reminder, check out the conclusion of Punxsutawney Phil's emergence, as envisioned by the folks at the Office of Tourism, with help from local ad firm Red Tettemer. He did, in fact, see his shadow on February 2, which is supposed to mean six more weeks of winter. Although today was beautiful, it looks like we'll have a high under 40 degrees by Saturday, so don't call Phil a liar, after all.

We are happy to announce the creation of our very own Twitter account: @Phillyist. Twitter is a free microblogging and social networking service. Users can update their status from the Twitter web site, popular instant messaging clients and SMS text messaging via mobile phone, not to mention a slew of third-party apps for various platforms. The purpose? Some would argue that Twitter and similar services like Jaiku only exacerbate an already intensifying addiction to "the grid." Phillyist isn't sure it's quite that sinister, so we've joined up to provide Twitter as one option of keeping yourself informed when we post a new story. We've set it up to send our headlines and a snippet of each post to Twitter when we update. Thanks to Annie Heckenberger, a Community Trailblazer at Red Tettemer, for taking the plunge and becoming our first follower! Feel free to leave your Twitter user name in the comments and join the conversation!

Ah, flash mobs. We love them. From massive pillow fights to silent discos, they’re generally outrageous, funny, and tend to be a lot safer than actual mobs.

A little while back, we told you about the First Person Story Tour and its colorful "mascot," the Story Tour Van. The Story Tour was a promotion to build up some buzz for the First Person Festival. Well, it's that time. The festival kicks off today with a wide range of events. The events are priced from free to $35 (the two most expensive events include food as part of the ticket price), and there's a bit of something for everyone. The Festival takes place entirely at 2111 Sansom Street, home of the Philadelphia Shakespeare Festival, so no matter which event you're going to, you'll know where to be, and you won't have to scramble from one location to another when you're going to multiple events.

If you read Sunday's Inquirer, you might have seen a story about a psychedelic-looking van that's making its way around the city. If you didn't read Sunday's Inquirer, fear not, because we're giving you a story about a psychedelic-looking van that's making its way around the city. The graffitied 1988 Dodge Ram is the official vehicle of the First Person Story Tour. The Story Tour is an initiative of First Person Arts and Red Tettemer. Its goal: to collect real stories from real Philadelphians. By "real Philadelphians," we truly mean real Philadelphians: musicians, investment bankers, students, psychic advisers, and everything in between. Including kids at the zoo.

Ever wonder who thought up that “Philly’s More Fun When You Sleep Over” campaign? His name is Ed Tettemer of Red Tettemer, and yesterday he spoke to the day 2 lunch crowd at the Global Creative Economy Convergence Summit.
