It's a shame that both scheduled showings of (500) Days of Summer were tonight, because unless this film ends up slotted for Festival Favorites, you might not get a chance to see it for a while. But whenever it hits theaters, whether it's a festival encore or wide release, go see it. Billed as an anti-romantic comedy, this film is enormously appealing if, like me, you think relationships are more trouble than they're worth and love is an illusion. That said, even hopeless romantics will be charmed by this engaging story.

We hope you're ready because Philly CineFest/Philadelphia Film Festival 2009 opens tomorrow night! If you haven't put your schedule together and ordered your tickets yet, hit that link and get a move on. Screenings are already selling out. Also keep in mind, if you're a bit strapped for cash, you can see movies for free by volunteering. The request for volunteers in the Philadelphia Film Alliance e-newsletter has gone from being a note in plain text at the bottom of the email to a paragraph in full color at the top, so we think they need you pretty badly! To offer your services, contact Pari Patel at ppatel@phillycinema.org or call 267-765-9800 ext 205.
