Proofreading Philly

A few weeks ago, several Phillyists convened at The Black Sheep Pub in Rittenhouse for some good ol' fashioned Johnny Goodtimes Quizzo. We came in second and caught a lot of ex post facto ire for our team size—but that's neither here nor there. This post is about the menu at the Black Sheep, which was full of grammatical errors. This one may have been the most egregious, not just because of the use of a possessive rather than a plural, but because of its proximity to the correct pluralization.

Phillyist Interviews... Funnyman Chip Chantry

A lot of comedians need a shtick. And that's not to say it's a bad thing: heck, a lot of trailblazing comedians relied on their shticks and achieved great success and influenced comedians who followed them. George Carlin's profanity and Sam Kinison's scream (without either of which, we would not have the brilliance of Denis Leary), Gallagher's sledge-o-matic (which is directly to blame for Carrot Top, who was actually surprisingly funny when this Phillyist saw him many, many years ago), Foxworthy's "You might be a redneck..." (which is probably the greatest one-liner gimmick ever). So we love comedians with shtick; but sometimes, it's refreshing to see a comedian who can just go on stage and be themselves, and be very, very funny. We also love local talent. To our delight, we found both in local comedian Chip Chantry.

This is Phillyist is a Quizzoholic. It's okay, you can admit it along with us.

Hi there, Wawa:

We bring you the buzz from the 215 blogs this week:

Fun around town, for $10 or less:

This is going to be a short update for the weekly blog roundup. Why? It's because everyone and their mother is at South by Southwest, drunker than Ted Kennedy on nickel night. Oh and most bloggers are writing about who they met and how drunk they got, not about the music (isn't the music the POINT of going in the first place?) Jim McGuinn and XPN are doing a good job though with their web coverage and live broadcasts, but that's about it.

This post was compiled from pieces written by Star Foster.

Not sure if it was the dark sky or the heavy rains, but something had Philly bloggers feeling retrospective this weekend:
  • Akkam's Razor provides links celebrating one of Philadelphian's favorite summer getaways: Wildwood and the Jersey shore; including a non Jersey shore related link to the 1981 Atari game catalog. Man, we miss our 2600.
  • Karl Martino reminds us that the more things change, the more they stay the same, with Megadeth's still timely Peace Sells.
  • Local quiz master Johnny Goodtimes links us to a look back on the ever-changing hairstyle of national quiz master, Alex Trebek(which thankfully does not include photos of the moustacheless Trebek - because the clean shaven Trebek really freaks us out).

- Akkam's Razor is apparently movie. They've got loads of related links.

The best of the internet, chopped into tiny bits and grilled for your enjoyment.
