Phillyist Interviews... Guy Fieri

Of all the chefs we met at last weekend's Atlantic City Food and Wine Festival, Guy Fieri seemed most like he belonged in New Jersey—even though he's a California boy. Personable, at ease in his surroundings, and completely un-self-conscious (unless you're trying to capture him mid-"Hunch," as you'll see below), Guy's exactly what you'd expect him to be if you're a fan of Diners, Drive-ins and Dives. And above all, he's funny. Before we got our chance to chat with him, he taunted the husband one of the event's hostesses for allowing his wife to drive a minivan before insisting that she yodel his introduction. We didn't even get five minutes of Guy's time, but we got at least ten minutes worth of interview material with this fast-talking winner of the second season of The Next Food Network Star. And, as you'll see at the bottom of the interview, he said we can buy him a sandwich sometime. We fully intend to follow through.

We got a press release today from the Food Network, which announced the new season of The Next Iron Chef will kick off October 4th. Not, perhaps, Phillyist-worthy, but for one thing: James Beard winner Jose Garces of Amada/Tinto/Distrito/Chifa/soon-to-open Village Whiskey will be appearing on the show. You'd best believe that we on the Phillyist staff will be watching every week. Good luck, Chef!

Watch out Rachael Ray. A local resident may give you a run for your EVOO. Aaron McCargo Jr. from Camden was the winner of the fourth season of the Food Network's Next Food Network Star. McCargo, along with ten other finalists, went through weeks of crazy missions including a throwdown with Bobby Flay to prove he was the next star. McCargo's prize? His own show called "Big Daddy's Kitchen," which premieres in early August. Adam Gertler from South Philly was also one of the final three finalists. The Food Network is currently casting for the next season. Let's do it again, Philly.

Um, yes please.

We love food. Not just because it's a necessary substance for sustaining life. Perhaps, we should say we're in love (NSFW).

At this point, I guess most of you readers out there know that I don't eat to live – I live to eat. So it stands to reason that I've had a few dining experiences this year that have been especially memorable. Some of them appeared on Phillyist, and others did not. But gourmets and gourmands alike rejoice: they're all here, in all their mouth drooling glory.

I've spoken before of my love for the Food Network. And now, I have one more thing to love about my favorite addicting cable network: swag. Just before Thanksgiving, they contacted me to see if I was interested in trying out any of the items from their Holiday Gift Guide. "All of them," I replied. They informed me that they couldn't send me one of everything, but that they'd send me the Calphalon Nonstick Everyday...
