  • Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton will be in Philadelphia today for a private meeting at a Center City law firm to say thank you to some of her major supporters.
  • This is just one of those stories that you simply can't make up. According to an NBC 10 article, a Lansdale couple is under investigation for (and have openly admitted to perpetrating) an "18-month egging spree." Seeking revenge on unnamed friends for unnamed damages inflicted upon them, the man and his girlfriend spent over a year slinging non-viable chicken embryos at more than 400 homes, allegedly causing over $7,000 in damage. According to the national average price of a dozen eggs as quoted in a March 2008 Washington Post article, that $7,000 would purchase about 3,225 (about 268 dozen) eggs.

  • 23-year-old Chante Wright, as part of a deal to cut her boyfriend's jail sentence, agreed to testify in a murder case. It was a dangerous move, and her testimony was crucial, so "she became the first state witness in Philadelphia to enter the federal witness-protection program." She was given a new identity and moved to Florida. Unfortunately, she defied authorities and returned to Philadelphia to visit her gravely ill grandmother. She was killed early Saturday, only seven hours after coming back to the city.
  • TV star Bam Margera of West Chester, along with business partner and bar owner Don Moore, plans "to open a theater, capped by an old-fashioned marquee, in an empty storefront in the business district. Construction is under way for a projected opening in the spring. The theater, so far unnamed, will book musical acts and stand-up comedians and will show films."
  • "Officers from the State Police Bureau of Liquor Control Enforcement in Philadelphia conducted a special underage drinking detail in the Lincoln Financial Field parking lot" before the Temple-Penn State football game Saturday and arrested 31 underage tailgaters, as well as one more for presenting false identification. City police were trying to break up a dispute between two rival groups of young men in Gray's Ferry Saturday night when the young men opened fire on...

  • An 18-year-old former Philadelphian has admitted guilt in two armed bank robberies in April in South Jersey, as well as an attempted carjacking and a home invasion following the second robbery.
  • For many at-risk youths, getting arrested for the first time is no piece of cake. In fact, it’s a brief stay in jail with a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. But what starts out as a frightening experience could turn into a constructive and hopeful opportunity.

  • Holy crud! The bill banning trans fats in Philly eateries (pre-packaged foods are excepted, so our beloved Tastykakes are safe, thank God) has already passed! Of course, it doesn't begin to take even partial effect until September 1st of this year, and only finally goes into full effect a year after that. But still, that was fast!
  • Ah, Philly politics. They're just so trashy. Case in point: a Tuesday press conference in Rittenhouse Square that was supposed to be about District Attorney Lynne Abraham endorsing Larry Farnese's campaign in the upcoming Democratic primary was crashed by supporters of Farnese's opponent, Babette Josephs, and quickly dissolved into "a noisy shouting match." Maybe all these folks should go in together on a future episode of MTV's new trash-talking show, "Yo Momma."
  • Okay, time for a weird crime story. Kevin Eckenrode (25-year-old new employee of the state Gaming Control Board) and Rachel Kozlusky (his 23-year-old girlfriend) were apparently quite drunk (and possibly also high - a marijuana pipe was found on the premises) when Eckenrode allegedly decided it would be fun to dangle Kozlusky, in just a sweater and underpants, from the 23rd-floor window of Eckenrode's apartment in Harrisburg. She fell 230 feet, crashed through a skylight, and died. Eckenrode has been suspended without pay, arrested, and charged with murder. Even if the death does turn out to be an accident, the homicide charge will probably stand, "because it covers deaths caused by intentional, reckless or negligent acts," says the County District Attorney.
  • Philadelphians will go to the polls next Tuesday. Like any good, civic-minded resident, we're sure that you'll be there bright and early, clutching your voter registration card excitedly, ready to participate in democracy!
