We told you about the possibility of an Apple store coming to Center City last January. But, that was quickly nixed. It looks like that may change, however, as the design plans for a new store near 16th and Walnut streets go before the city Art Commission tomorrow. Apple has already posted job listings on its web site for the new store, so it's looking good, though an official announcement about the new store hasn't been made. Plans for the building include the trademark, futuristic all-glass exterior. Apple said last week that it will open between 25 and 50 new stores across the country in 2010. The company opened 54 stores between July 2008 and July 2009, but it is known for being picky about its urban locations. We'll keep you posted. (Via Metro Philadelphia.)

We told you about tentative plans for a new Apple Store at the old Brasserie Perrier location at 16th and Walnut late last week. Well kids, it's not happening, at least not there. Supposedly Apple is still planning a location in Center City, but is looking for the perfect space. Looks like we'll have to keep making the trek to King of Prussia or (gasp!) over the bridge to The Promenade in Marlton, NJ to get our Apple fill.
Word on the street: The recently empty Brasserie Perrier restaurant located on 16th and Walnut may have a new tenant by the name of Apple. Now, you'll never miss the newest [insert: Nano, MacBook, etc.] from Steve Jobs and crew. (This Phillyist was pretty upset when she discovered a newer 17" MacBook Pro that came out two weeks after she purchased hers. And, it was cheaper!) Hopefully with a store right around the corner we can all stay on top of the latest Apple inventions.
A tall, icy glass of our favorite internet junk, just for you.
Fall is a busy time for Phillyist, and as such we don’t really get to put in as much volunteer face time as we do in the slow days of summer. So ‘tis the season to poke around and find some easy and painless ways to support local causes.
Dear Philadelphia:
Austinist gets arty with an interactive guide to SXSW, loved some local art galleries and a new art exhibit and lamented the possible loss of "Friday Night Lights" production to New Mexico.
