The best of the internet, chopped into tiny bits and grilled for your enjoyment. MoviesOnline has a ton of clips up from the upcoming Neil Marshall film, Doomsday. (Via) The next group in Hollywood we have to worry about striking is the actors. They're represented by the Screen Actors' Guild, who for some reason don't even want to start negotiating with producers until April. So another union, the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists,......

What's new and/or interesting on TV this week. Paranormal State (Mon, 10PM-11PM, A&E) - The debut of a new reality show featuring members of Penn State University's Paranormal Research Society investigating reports of paranormal phenomena. Independent Lens (Tue, 10PM-11:30PM, WHYY) - It's another Penn......

LAist began the month with a new food series exploring the popular and unknown late night eats around town. If a Top Chef winner opened up a late night spot in Los Angeles, denizens would flock it, yet the LA Times and other media might be wary. Turning to sports, the Dodger season was quite memorable in the way that it imploded and the LA County Sheriff's Department made some games of their own......

What's new and/or interesting on TV this week. Modern Marvels (Mon, 8PM-9PM, History Channel) - Tonight's modern marvel is chocolate, so obviously this episode is required viewing. Included is the history of chocolate, the chocolate-making process (including the manufacture of M&Ms), and the many properties that chocolate is thought to possess. LAist is experimenting with blogging dates from J-Date, but finds the best men are found offline. Some date vicariously online and that is one reason why porn is big -- really freaking big -- so they ask if they should cover XXX since the heart of it lays in the city's San Fernando Valley. A writer grapples with her food porn photography obsession, another gets censored on Flickr, one gets scooped by the LA......

This week we'd like to congratulate the -ist network's Mother Hen, Gothamist's Jen Chung, who found herself a recipient of Wired Magazine's Wired Rave Award. If that doesn't sound terribly exciting, keep in mind another recipient was J.K. Rowling. Yep, that's right, the -ist network and Harry Potter now have something in common. Go us. Austinist has a chat with the ever-fashionable Golden Girl Rue McClanahan, and managed to catch some local fashionistas making......

As everyone watched Haley Scarnato get her ass kicked off American Idol last night, we were at The Tower Theater watching Toby Lightman's kick-ass show. She was so good we forgot who she was opening for. Oh yeah, Taylor Hicks, the winner of American Idol's fifth season, and better known as The Soul Patrol. Toby Lightman, a native of Cherry Hill, NJ, rocked the house last night showcasing songs from her new album, Bird......

We don't know about where you are, but it seems like spring can't decide whether or not to happen. Some days are warm, some days are cold, and sometimes you aren't sure which. Baseball may have started up (and soccer/football winding down) but it still seems cold out there. Unless it's not. Anyways, onto the -ists. Austinist happily anticipated fall's Austin City Limits, even though they're not fully recovered from South By Southwest. In other......

We here in the Ist-A-Verse know that we're sensational, but it's very rare that we get a chance to be sensationalistic. This week, we've decided to have ourselves a little fun and try our hand at tacky tabloid headlines, using nothing more than our favorite posts from this week. Torontoist Special Report: Rosie to Trump: "Fire 300 Bicyclists for Fraud!" On DCist: Students Go Wild for Slogans, Secrets and Sexual Harassment The action was thick......

What's new and/or interesting in Philly theaters this weekend. The Lookout - A down on his luck janitor at a bank ends up entangled in a plot to rob the place in this crime thriller starring the surprisingly talented Joseph Gordon-Levitt as the janitor, and Jeff Daniels as... somebody else. This is the directorial debut of screenwriter Scott Frank, who wrote the excellent Out of Sight. Sounds good! Trailer Showing at: Ritz at the Bourse......

I have a serious literary crush on Tony Kushner. Blame Angels in America (yeah, both parts). So naturally, when I heard a few years ago that Tony Kushner had collaborated with composer Jeanine Tesori on a musical, I was intrigued. But I didn't catch it on Broadway, and then... well, embarrassingly enough, I just kind of forgot about the play until the Arden announced it as part of its 2006-2007 season. But then my......

Dear Readers: Remember that play I mentioned? It opened last night, and because the lovely cast and crew (and a few of their friends) know that I've been leaving rehearsal at one a.m. and then coming home to work on Phillyist until five a.m., they volunteered to give me a night off and write my column for me. What follows is a collaborative effort by a bunch of Penn Law students while sitting around a......

Lanford Wilson is a great playwright who is sometimes a little difficult to produce. There's a lot of depth and subtext to his plays that are challenging to capture. When a production nails Wilson's script, they really nail it. When they fail, the results can be embarrassingly dull. But more often than not, productions of Lanford Wilson plays fall somewhere in the middle. And, for better or worse, that's where the Simpatico Theatre Project's......

This week's quote comes from Twelfth Night. The line is spoken in Act One, Scene Three, by the rather ridiculous Sir Andrew: “What is ‘Pourquoi’? do or not do? I would I had bestowed that time in the tongues that I have in fencing, dancing and bear-baiting: O, had I but followed the arts!” Now, on with the listings! All in the Timing - Sure thing. March 2-18. Ticket information online. Angels Fall - Who......

Philly's annual Young Artists Exhibit, now amazingly in its 50th year, opens today and runs through June 10th. "The exhibit is the largest student art show of its kind." All artworks featured (there are over 1,500) were created by kids in Philadelphia School District schools (over 190 represented), from kindergarten through senior year of high school. The opening reception for the exhibition happens this afternoon at 3:45PM at the new School District Administration Building at......

Brett Myers gave Phillies fans a nice Easter gift: a big, fat, round egg in the runs column. He pitched a gem yesterday afternoon (7 2/3 innings, no runs, 7 hits, five strike outs and one walk) to close out the Colorado Rockies, and Arthur Rhodes and Tom Gordon wrapped up the shut out. Not that the Phillies did much better offensively than Colorado, winning the 1-0 game on a solo Ryan Howard home......

The Guardian Angels are back. Two years after the local chapter disbanded, the soaring crime rate in Philadelphia has prompted the re-emergence of The Guardian Angels. Saturday night they took matters into their own hands by patrolling the city. Alas, with only 16 members, they didn't do much good - three people were shot to death yesterday. The good news is that they are recruiting and the goal is to have 500 red-bereted and red-booted......

The Philadelphia Phillies will announce today at 4 p.m. that they have fired General Manager Ed Wade. Since we only get happy when bloggers get fired (or, you know, win Pulitzers), we're pretty so-so about this... Oh, who are we kidding? We're pretty excited that the Phillies have finally canned Wade. Sure, it feels wrong to delight in something like this, but Wade has been in charge for 8 years with a growing payroll, but......
