Civil-ity Comes to New Jersey
Yes, the rumors you've heard are true: as of yesterday, gay couples can now register to get married in that land of promise that borders us to the east, just over the bridges. Well, they can register to get a civil union anyway, which is the same thing, but just under a name that the NJ Legislature hopes will upset fewer people. This came about due to a lawsuit filed a while back by seven couples who thought it might be cool if they had the same rights as straight people. The New Jersey Supreme Court thought about it and decided it would be cool, too.
So does this mean the end of Western Civilization and the American Family will begin in New Jersey, just as we all had always suspected?! Uh, we kind of doubt it. We were always a bit shaky on how gay people getting married would end up hurting anybody, let alone straight families living in other states across the country. In our opinion the only shameful bit about this whole thing is that NJ is only the third state in the nation to allow gay civil unions, and only Massachusetts has legalized actual, full-fledged gay marriage.
