The Internet Is Creepy

DamonKRobertsRequest.pngOnce in a while, Phillyist will get friend requests from people we don't know. We usually choose to "deny" these requests. But not before scrutinizing the profile of said requester to make sure that we truly do not know him. We got a really interesting one today. We couldn't figure out why a 37-year-old guy with no apparent ties to our alma mater, or any of our friends, would want to friend us.

So we scrolled down, and we saw the information you see there on your right.

DamonBio.pngNow, as a blog, Phillyist does certainly believe in the all-mighty influential power of the Internet, but something about being Facebook-stalked by a City Council candidate doesn't sit terribly well with us. Especially when our profile is set to highly restricted settings that meant he didn't know where in Philly we were located (i.e. if we're eligible to vote for him in the first place). He might be recruiting friends, but is he really getting votes? (Especially since a lot of people on Facebook who are actually students might not be registered to vote in Philly at all...)

And so we're denying his friend request. We can't vote for him, and we don't know him, so what's the point?

We're assuming it's just a matter of time before he finds us on MySpace, though. We wonder what song will play when we open his profile. His Facebook page doesn't give any indicator of his musical interests...
