You, Sir, Are Decidedly NOT Jack Bauer

Our new author Lou is jumping right into the fray with a quick news post on the Penn shooting (gosh, we sure are Penn-centric!) that anonymous tipsters have been dumping links about into our contribute section - thanks for the heads-up, folks! We might give Lou more of a proper intro later, but for now we'll let his writing speak for him.

upennlaw.jpgPhillyist has heard a good deal about muggings, shootings, and other assorted acts of violence in West Philly, but foreign spying? That's been completely off the radar...until today.

According to the Daily News, a 31-year-old Korean student at the University of Pennsylvania Law School put upwards of 15 bullets into the door of his neighbors - two graduate students from Drexel - because of his

"suspicion that... [they] were foreign spies sent to work on some sort of a terrorism plot, police said."

Emil Babay of the Daily Pennsylvanian spoke with Lt. John Walker of the Philadelphia Police Department, who said

"This belief was spurred by a conversation that occurred yesterday morning in which the Penn student learned the two Drexel students were from India and studying biomedical engineering," Walker said.

The Penn student, who is Korean, became "irate" that the Drexel students were studying here after he learned they were from India, Walker said.

Walker added that the suspect had been living in the apartment for less than 30 days."

The as yet unnamed Law student was arrested Wednesday afternoon and could face an aggravated assault charge, as well as simple assault and burglary. There were no injuries during the incident, just a 22-year-old Drexel student hiding behind the couch.

Whether or not it's too much 24 is unclear. However, we do know that, in what Phillyist thinks is certainly a case of paranoia or at the very least misguided patriotism, firing a GLOCK-9 into a door in an inhabited apartment building during the mid-afternoon won't do anybody any good.
