With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility

ben08-31-06.jpgThe American Political Science Association is having its 2006 annual meeting in Philly this year, starting today and running through Sunday, September 3rd. They thought our city - the birthplace of the nation - was the perfect venue for their theme, which is "Power Reconsidered": "whether and how the concept of power informs political science." There's supposed to be 7,000 attendees from around the world, 730 panel and roundtable presentations, many renowned speakers, an awards ceremony, and the world's largest exhibit of political science publishers (read: lots of stuff to buy). Our own Ed Rendell will be delivering a guest lecture on leadership.

But here's the fun part: when the APSA was in DC last year, our sister site DCist bet anyone $100 they couldn't get a photo of Cornell West with a great big greasy slice of pizza. APSA staff came through. This year, we've got an even tougher challenge: get a picture of Ben Franklin with a red cherry water ice-tinged tongue! If y'all are having a seriously hard time tracking down our founding father and getting him to lick some red stuff, we'd also accept a photo of Mr. Ed Rendell with a red-dyed tongue. We aren't offering $100, though; just a free Phillyist T-shirt from our Spreadshirt shop. This challenge is open to all our readers, although of course we're expecting the APSA staff to step up and come through again...

Now get out there and let's see how power looks with its tongue stuck out!
