PETA Visits South Street KFC
Phillyist is trying to imagine the scene yesterday at the Kentucky Fried Chicken on South Street -- PETA members, all indignant about KFC's treatment of pre-slaughter chickens, protesting at the fast food joint while patrons eat their post-slaughter chicken and cast a wary glance and a cynical eye roll in PETA's direction. No doubt, the level of discourse would have been far more entertaining if the PETA had staged the protest on a busy Saturday night or, let's say, at a KFC in deep South Philly.
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals contends that KFC is mistreating its herds of chickens prior to molding them into boneless buffalo wings and chicken sandwiches. According to KYW, " PETA's Lindsay Rajt says an undercover investigator who went into a KFC 'supplier of the year' slaughterhouse revealed that workers routinely cripple and torture chickens."
The image brings to mind a factory filled with chickens hobbling around on crutches or factory workers with a penchant for red hot pokers.
